Welcome Chargers!

As we prepare to kick off the 2019-20 academic year I wanted to share a few pieces of information with you.

  1. Please come by BMS for Open House on Thursday, August 22 at your convenience between 5:00-6:30 p.m.  I look forward to seeing you there.
  2. Be assured your students will be receiving gifted education services from the first day of school.
  3. Students who have demonstrated potential need of gifted education services will be considered by the school level Gifted Identification Team within the first month of school.
  4. Differentiated Education Plans for identified students will be prepared during the month of September.
  5. Students will be meeting two days per week during their "What I Need" (WIN) period as grade level groups with Ms. Cole to work on project based learning units/activities.

What to Expect of AIG @ BMS?

Students identified for Gifted Education Services under the Carteret County Public Schools 2019-22 AIG Plan are cluster grouped per their identification area(s) for ELA and Math.  These students will receive differentiated instructional opportunities as appropriate to their leaning needs provided by their regular classroom teachers.  Ms. Cole and other district personnel have provided classroom teachers with a multitude of resources and tools to assist in differentiating instruction for gifted students.  Ms. Cole meets weekly with grade level teachers to provide support and assistance in differentiating curriculum including interdisciplinary activity/unit development.

In addition, students will meet twice weekly during grade level "What I Need" (WIN) periods as a group with Ms. Cole.  During these sessions students will be working collaboratively on project based learning activities.  The goal of these meetings is to provide identified students the opportunity for creative problem solving and exploration of concepts/ideas with their peers.
